Benefits Of Lotus Flower Tattoos
Lotus flower tattoos work well for a variety of reasons. First they can be sized and placed just about anywhere. Of course they make super sexy lower back tattoo designs but they can also work for a man on his shoulder. They work well on a leg, calf, hip or just about anywhere and on either sex. This makes it a great tattoo design. It is also full of brilliant color making it a wonderful design that really stands out. It can easily be enhanced with vines, water, or even certain gods or other religious symbols. It can also be sized from really large for a full back design to really small for the top of a foot design. No matter where you want your next tattoo or what size you want it you might want to consider a lotus flower tattoo.

The Lotus Flower In Tattoo Design
In the realm of tattoos of course the symbolism is somewhat dependent on the person that got the tattoo. Each person that gets a tattoo can ascribe their own personal meaning and symbolism to the tattoo. They typically have some reason that they were drawn to a particular design and therefore the meaning or symbolism behind a tattoo is very personal to some extent. However, the lotus flower is one of those tattoo designs that has a long history as a symbol in art and religion and this carries over into the world of tattoo design.

You might not know this already but lotus flower typically grow in the water. In fact they commonly grow in ponds or areas of still and slow moving water. They start their life off way down at the bottom of the watter in the muck and mud. Then as the flower grows and develops into a bud the vine starts to grow upwards and the bud begins it's journey towards the surface of the water. The bud starts off pointing downwards and then as it grows it points up and reaches for the sunlight at the surface of the water. Once the bud peaks out over the surface of the water it starts to unfold itself to reveal a beautiful blossom or flower. In India both people that are Hindu and Buddhist see the journey of the lotus flower as symbolic for the soul's journey to enlightenment. So there is a strong religious association with lotus flowers. This symbol has been carried over into the area of tattoo design of course and the tattoo is a symbol for perfection, enlightenment and beauty.

Additions To A Lotus Flower Tattoo
Another great thing about lotus flower tattoos is the ability to size the design and add to it. There are many elements that can be added to make the design more interesting and yet things that still tie into the theme of the tattoo. You don't want to add something that seems out of place like a big skull or a huge overpowering tribal design. Instead it is better to stick with things that tie into the theme of the lotus flower. One of the easiest things that you can do to add some interest to a lotus flower is to add some beautiful blue colored water in the background. The water can even be splashing which gives the tattoo some action. Throughout Japan lotus flowers can typically be seen growing in small water gardens outside of temples. They are often growing right alongside the koi fish which are also very popular symbols to the Japanese. A koi fish is a symbol for power, strength and perseverance and they make a great addition to a lotus flower tattoo.

Whatever you chose you know you can't go wrong with a lotus flower tattoo. The deep symbolism and historical significance behind this tattoo make it a great choice.
